The new alignments are done and we stayed the same except we lost Burton.  They moved them into a closer district trying to save on gasoline and keep at least 6 schools in each division.  Ours are lined up like ducks in a row:  Milano, Thorndale, Thrall, Granger, Bartlett and Holland.  Now the coaches have to let us know when the Homecoming game will be played so we can start making our plans.  Maybe by next week we will be able to give you more details on this.

Glanced through Rep. Gattis Capitol Report, a little news from the capitol.  Inside was a picture of him with the family of Lillian Garner Stiles, Class of 1946 who was mauled to death on November 26, 2005 by a pack of dogs.  There is now Lillian's Law to prosecute owners of animals that maime or kill people.  In the photo was Bill and Mary Ann Garner Hill, Class of 1953 of Canyon Lake, Lucy Garner Ditmore, Class of 1956, of Austin and Jack Stiles, Class of 1946, Lillian's husband.

Had a phone call from Jesse Schrader, Class of 1957 this past week.  It wasn't about ex-students but was a fun conversation.  Always enjoy hearing from our exes no matter what the reason.

Visited with Pam Unnasch Ballard, Class of 1974 and she's looking good and feeling a lot better than she did a couple of weeks ago.  We hope she keeps on improving and will be out and about soon.

Still having e-mail issues but have about decided it's not going to get any better.  If you ever send me an e-mail and you don't get some sort of a reply, please re-send it.  If I don't respond in some way, it's because I did not get it.

Our congratulations to Jeffry Rowe, Class of 2001 on receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University in December, 2007.  So proud of our exes who go for that higher education.

Received such a nice phone call from A. D. Mainard, Class of 1940 of Houston.  A. D. purchased a lunch ticket for Homecoming this past year and didn't show up.  Worried about why, I wrote him a letter and he replied via telephone.  He's well and doing fine.  He just didn't come after finding out his good friends Helen Locklin Barnes of Fair Oaks Ranch and James David Rutherford of Whittier, California were ill and couldn't come.  He was expecting about 30 folks at his home for a Super Bowl party.  And speaking of Burton being dropped from our district, he says he goes there every few weeks and eats at a very nice cafe there.  Said the floors are unlevel, wooden and the tables lean, but the food is great.  We'll have to try it some time.  A. D. just loves our little town, like we do.  We reminisced and went way back before my time.  He talked about his good friend and ours, Wilburn "Pee Wee" Moerbe, who passed away December 23, 1996.  Said the first time he met us was when we were at a football game with Pee Wee and wife, Vernetha Brandt Moerbe, Class of 1950, when Pee Wee introduced us.  The four of us went to football games together for over 45 years.  Talk about good friends!!!  And we still make the games with Vernetha.  Just so many good memories brought up and we really appreciate A. D.'s phone call.  Great fun!!

Both our girls and boys basketball teams are doing great.  Always look forward to seeing the write ups in the newspapers on them.
