| A real nice week among our exes.
Must be they are coming out of hibernation. With this Texas weather,
we don't know whether to hibernate or work in the yard in short sleeves.
The days have been so nice with almost freezing temperatures at night.
We received an e-mail from Micah Merz, Class of 1993 of Shertz informing us of his new e-mail address. Our thanks to Micah for remembering us with this change. And now for the news we've all been waiting
for - our Homecoming dates.
Missed our dear friend and ex-student, Graham Dickerson, Class of 1935 on his 90th birthday celebration. Graham always comes to Homecoming and was our oldest Veteran this last year. According to his nice thank you note in the newspaper, they had a really good turn out with 230+ folks to help him celebrate. So sorry we missed it. Had a nice long phone visit from Norman Damerau, ex-teacher this week. The reason they weren't able to come to Homecoming this past year was his wife, Ruth Damerau, also an ex-teacher, being sick. She has had a number of unique ailments to plague her over the last several months. She's doing much better now and we pray she will continue to improve. His main reason for calling was trying to find Preston White's son who is a minister. Since they live in Willis now, it is more possible for them to go hear him preach. He must be preaching in that Willis/Conroe area. Unfortunately, we don't have him on any of our class rosters so he may have been pre-school when they moved away. It was a nice phone visit and we always enjoy hearing from our exes. He did say his daughter who lives in Conroe promised them that they will bring them to Homecoming this year so we look forward to seeing them then. From Janet Laffere Schwarz, Class of 1968 of Austin, she is so happy to be back home from her temporary home at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. This from her mom and we really appreciate the update. She is still on the feeding tube but since she is through with the radiation treatments, her mouth and throat should heal up and she will be able to swallow again, hopefully very soon. Do keep Janet in your prayers as she still has lots of hard times ahead. And we send her a great big get well wish. Newspaper article from Temple college listed Neil Caffey, Class of 2003 receiving an associate of applied science degree in criminal justice. Our congratulations to Neil. He received one of our Ex-Students Scholarships. We hear that Nancy Barron Heleman, class of 1957 is out of the hospital and is at her son's home in Bastrop. Don't know much more about her, but we are sure she's at least glad to be out of the hospital. We still need to keep her in our prayers as she is bound to have more trying times ahead. I've finally got part of my computer programs up and running and working on some of our exes files. I hate to tell it, but I've just added the 28 names to our "lost" exes list just from this past year's returns. They have already been listed in the newspaper with no results. Sure hate to lose our exes. Had a call from exes mom and wife, Marjorie Menzel. She read in our article that we were looking for a Frank Menzel, Class of 1971 who attended Thorndale schools but had never been added to our rosters. Well, she had his address and gave it to us so he is now on the Class roster of 1971. Our many thanks to Marjorie. Received a great phone call from our good friend Vernetha Brandt Moerbe, Class of 1950. She was so pleased to read our last article about A. D. Mainard's phone call and the good memories it brought up. And we do have a lot of those. Appreciated her call so much and going over our fond memories. Now for a funny!!! Probably not funny to the folks involved, but since there was a large colored photo on the front page of the newspaper, it's worth repeating. The photo was of a cow charging David Clawson, Class of 1977 who is a Capt. in the Taylor Police Dept. The cow belonged to our Dennis Schroeder, Class of 1966. After several hours, they did get the cow back in the trailer. And she was just going for a check up at the Vet's. No one was hurt so that's good. |
