| Such a nice week among our exes with phone
calls, visits and e-mails. We really enjoy hearing from and visiting
with our exes.
Jennifer Patschke Fisher, Class of 1970 had a sack full of old Champion articles back to the 1970s and asked if the exes would like to have them. I've had a week to go through and read and it's great to see our exes the way they were then. Our many thanks to Jennifer for thinking of us. One photo really caught my eye. It was Homecoming 1970 and the exes Queen was Artice Fay Patschke Tate, Class of 1950 and was escorted by Roger Rodenbeck, Class of 1972. The 1969 Queen, Bobbie Kelm Love, Class of 1949 passed on the crown. This was back when we had exes queens and it was stopped a few years later. Such great memories!! Artice Fay passed away April 13, 2001 and there were seven (7) scholarships given in her memory by her husband, James Tate. Our condolences to the family of Kevin Dean
Brooks who passed away
Congratulations to Kaleigh Page, Class of 2007 for receiving the AT&T scholarship in the amount of $2,500. This will really help her at Tarleton State University where she is majoring in nursing. We received such a nice e-mail from Courtney West Hislop, Class of 1989 forwarded to us by our webmaster, Suzanne Quick. We appreciate Suzanne so much for going out of her way to forward these important e-mails and for keeping our website up to date. And we thank Courtney for thinking of us with address changes for herself in Fort Worth and Lauren Hislop, Class of 2007 in Bryan and Jared Hislop, Class of 2004 in Fort Worth. We need to get these changes before our big mailing in August or September and all help is appreciated. There was a real nice photo in the newspaper of the Milam Go Team Reps and all are exes. They were Chris Gerren, Class of 2005; Colby Hilton, Class of 2006; Donald McDaniel, Class of 1982; and Mark Rodenbeck, Class of 1983. This was a Go Texan event held in Katy, Texas. Our exes do get around and are involved in so many helpful projects. Speaking of being involved and in helpful events, we received an invitation to support the Relay for Life's annual event in Rockport by Preston Adams, Class of 1966. Nice that he thought of us. We've also been invited to be involved in the Rockdale Relay for Life. It's just good to hear from our exes and thank Preston for thinking of us. On our list of new exes that have never been added to our rosters, we listed Johnny Andrews. Well, we received an e-mail from Johnny himself, so he is now on the roster of the Class of 1970. Our thanks to him for letting us know. Our condolences to the family of Sylvester E. Brosch Sr. who passed away February 20, 2008. He was father-in-law to John Miller, Class of 1981 of Georgetown. He will surely be missed by so many. Congratulations to La Nae Cepak Wilson, Class of 2000 of Taylor on the purchase of Coyote Cuts Hair Salon in Thorndale. A nice photo of the ribbon cutting in the newspaper announcing the opening an we wish her great success. Our condolences go out to classmate Shirley Lincoln Bernard, Class or 1953 of Austin on the death of her youngest daughter, Pamela Almquist Hammack on February 17, 2008 at the young age of 42 from complications of pneumonia. She will surely be missed. Thanks to exes mom and wife, Sarah Lincoln, for this sad news. Had one of those great fun visits from Clyde "Poly" Poldrack, Class of 1955 of Cedar Creek. He was in town visiting his brother-in-law, Bennie Woodward who is also exes dad to several and exes husband to the late Florine Poldrack Woodward, Class of 1950. Evelyn Beard Young, Class of 1953 of Rockdale called and had information needed by ex-teacher, Norman Damerau, which was listed in last week's article. I gave her his email address and I know he will be so happy to hear from Evelyn. Our thanks to her for the call. There was a nice photo in the newspaper of Jason Ramirez, Class of 1997 and Arthur Gomez who took 3rd place in horseshoe pitching also at the Go Texan event in Katy. This was to help make the youth of Milam County eligible for a Go Texan Scholarship. More exes involved and we appreciate them and their hard work. There was a nice article and colored photo in the newspaper of Bill "Bubsie" Avrett, Class of 1948 of Rockdale. He and his wife were honored at a luncheon meeting for becoming a 10-time Paul Harris Fellow, signifying $10,000 in donations to the Rotary International Foundation. They were presented with an engraved crystal which is given only to "major donors" ($10,000 or more) to the Foundation. Mrs. Avrett was presented with a Rotary necklace. Less than 1% of Rotarians worldwide achieve "major donor" status. What a milestone and our congratulations to them. |
