| A really great week among our exes.
And, believe it or not, my e-mail is back up and working great. So
keep those e-mails and calls coming. If you have recently sent me
an e-mail, please re-send it as I lost all my e-mails in the webmail section
which was about 150 notes. I will greatly appreciate it.
We lost one of our own this week. Frances Camp Elliott, Class of 1946 of Dallas passed away January 4, 2008. Our condolences to her famiy and friends and know she will surely be missed. Thanks to Betty Ralston Logan, Class of 1947 also of Dallas for calling this information in to Evelyn Beard Young and to Evelyn for passing it on to us. We received such a sweet note from Doris Grubbs Campbell, Class of 1941 of Marlin. She really misses her home, but son, Jimmy Campbell, Class of 1966 and his wife, where Doris now lives, do everything for her to make her content and happy. Doris and I go way back and have had so many great times. In the late 1950s, we worked together in what was known then as the Thorndale Cotton Oil Mill. Just to jog a few memories, some of the employees there were, W. R. Sanders the first manager I worked for and Murrell Rogers the second manager I worked for. I worked there twice, before and after Leroy's Army stint. Others were O. L. White, exes dad Clifford Griffith, exes dad Walter Seelig and R. W. Townsend. When I would visit the Campbell farm, nothing would do Jimmy but for me to ride his horse. I love horses, but I'm not a rider, so I would spend the next few days so sore that I could hardly move. We would do anything for our kids and I dearly loved Jimmy. Doris says his 3 legged dog keeps her company. Our thanks to Doris for taking the time to write with such sweet tidbits. Noticed in the newspaper and had already
heard through the grapevine that Jennifer Tiemann Shelton, Class of 1975
and
Our condolences to the family and friends of exes grandfather, Gerald Paulsen, who passed away January 7, 2008. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and there was a very interesting write up along with a great photo in the newspaper. He was grandfather to Janell Paulsen Dzuik, Class of 1992 of Falls City; Eric Paulsen, Class of 1995 of Buckholts; and Aaron Paulsen, Class of 1997 of Taylor. He will surely be missed by many. Melanie Towery, Class of 2002 graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology last week. Thanks to exes dad, Darrel Towery for this great news. Our congratulations to Melanie on this big achievement. A little bird also told us that she became engaged to be married about this same time. She received the Edna Box Memorial Scholarship given by her son, John Box, Class of 1961 of Pipe Creek. Mrs. Edna Box was a long time Mathematics teacher in Thorndale schools. A couple of our exes in the news:
Wynell Sorenson Survant, Class of 1955 gave us a call with the address of Ervin Survant, now added to the class of 1962 roster from Saledo. I returned Wynell's call and we had such a great phone visit. We were good friends during our school days as her hubby, Jimmy Survant, was in my Junior class of 1954. While we were on the phone, I asked her about another Survant and got the names and addresses of two more exes who have never been added to our rosters. Sara Survant Perryman of Copperas Cove is now added to the class of 1960 and Ellen Survant Good of Pflugerville is now added to the Class of 1961. Our thanks to Wynell for giving us a call with the good information. We need to keep Jimmy in our prayers as he is having some health issues. We want Jimmy to get well soon. Our condolences to the family of Fred B. Wilson who passed away January 5, 2008. He was grandfather to Sharon Guthrie, Class of 1985 of Round Rock. I think he was father-in-law to Jimmy Guthrie, Class of 1964 as the obituary listed a James Guthrie's wife as his daughter. He will surely be missed. Noticed a box in the newspaper with the information that Graham Dickerson, Class of 1935 will hit the big "90" on January 27. We sure want to take this opportunity to wish Graham a huge "Happy Birthday" from the exes. Graham received the "Oldest Veteran" at Homecoming this past year. He doesn't miss our get togethers very often. Our congratulations to Graham on this milestone. |
