| Our exes are finally waking up after the
holidays. Had several calls this week and we always appreciate and
look forward to that.
Mary Hyde Towery, Class of 1954 called to give us information. Our thanks to her for thinking of us. A heads up from Evelyn Beard Young, Class of 1953 on one of our exes death. Our condolences to the famiy and friends of Geneva Schulz Wyatt, Class of 1930 of Taylor who passed away January 15, 2008. There was a lovely picture of her along with a write up in the newspaper. She will surely be missed. Our thanks to Evelyn for the call. Roy and Pam Unnasch Ballard, Class of 1974 have been battling that old flu bug for the last couple of weeks. Daughter, Lindsay Ballard, Class of 2004 also had a bad case of it, too. We send them a big "Get Well" wish. Noticed n the newspaper that Crystal Hernandez, Class of 1997 became the wife of Bobby Wetter on December 31, 2007. Our congratulations to them along with good wishes. Crystal has a new day care center here in Thorndale and we extend our congratulations to her on that, also. Delma "Sloppy" Kiesling, Class of 1941 is finally home after his bout with a pesky broken hip. But, after surgery and rehab, he's home for wife and exes mom, Doris Niemtschk Kiesling, along with other family members to help him along. Eldon "Shorty" Niemtschk, Class of 1953 fell and hurt his back and is using a walker to get around. Exes mom, Elyne Niemtschk Lehmann, had a flare up with her heart. She's home now, too. Exes mom, Irene Niemtschk Schroeder says they are all falling apart. If you haven't guessed by now, these are all Niemtschk siblings and they really aren't falling apart. Just a little stumble. We send them all a speedy get well wish. Reading in the "Bulldog History" in the newspaper, noticed the name of a student, Don Parks. He would be in the decade of the 70s and we need to find him and add him to our rosters. Please give us a call if you know the whereabouts of this young man and the class he would be attached to. Our Olbrich family gets together every Sunday evening for the evening meal and lots of fun and visiting. We share all our joys and news whether it's good or bad. Last week, Ted and Glenda Lehman Merz, Class of 1968 brought the Bicentennial Edition of the Thorndale Champion printed in July of 1976 and it was 32 or 36 pages long. I just can't tell you how many great pictures and articles and just great "stuff" in that old yellow paper. Photos of the 1896 school building with the students in front and a wonderful one of the three story high school building with the 1914 and 1915 graduating class standing in front. Great articles and a photo of downtown Thorndale with cars parked in the middle of Main Street and something that I never saw - - the utility poles were running down the middle of the street. When we moved here in1952, there were no poles, but cars still parked in the middle. There were photos of horses pulling wagons loaded with cotton bales and the highway was no where in sight. Our thanks to Ted and Glenda for sharing this great history. John Unnasch, Class of 2007 was on the Dean's Honor Roll for the Fall Semester of 2007 at Texas State Technical college in Waco. He had to have a grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0 to qualify. Our congratulations to John on this great achievement. We are very proud of him. John received the Marguerite Campbell Memorial Scholarship. What a fun time we had at the 50th wedding anniversary of Julia and Eldon "Shorty" Niemtschk, Class of 1953. They reserved two tables for our class and as I count, I think there were 9 from the Class of 1953 in attendance. As noted above, Shorty with a back problem and after a great barbecue dinner, there was a dance. If you have never seen someone do the grand march in a wheel chair, we were in for a surprise. With his grandson pushing and Julia holding his hand, round and round they went. A wonderful and sweet sight. Some of our class members that had planned to attend, didn't show. So, now we worry about them and what happened to keep them from coming. Harvey Gene Simank, classmate of Bryan was in the wedding 50 years ago and in our class, but illness kept him from coming. Our congratulatilons to Shorty and Julia and we wish them many more happy years. We still need to keep Janet Laffere Schwarz, Class of 1968 of Austin in our prayers. She and hubby Phillip Schwarz, also Class of 1968 are living in Houston in a hotel while she undergoes radiation and any other treatments she needs. She has such a long road ahead of her and we wish her well in her struggle. Thanks to her mom, Viola Huelsebusch, for sharing this information with us. |
