| Well, our girls basketball team lost the
State title, but 4th in the whole state is really something. We are
so proud of them and in our hearts and minds, they are still winners.
And we can't thank KRXT and Jay Davis enough for bringing the games to
us on the radio. It is such a thrill to be able to at least hear
what's going on for those of us unable to get to the games. And I'll
tell you---that Jay can talk. The boys team is still going strong
and we wish them good luck and "GO DOGS!!".
Sharon Melde Betak, Class of 1965, tells us that daughter, Misty Betak Zieschang, Class of 1996 fell and broke some bones in her foot along with other injuries about 6 weeks ago. Had to have pins put in her foot and hasn't been able to walk for a while. We thank Sharon for this information and wish Misty a speedy recovery. Our condolences to the family of Bennie Woodward who passed away March 1, 2008. He was dad to Brenda Woodward Cargill, Class of 1972 of Davilla; Susan Woodward Martin, Class of 1975 of Lexington; and Brian Woodward, Class of 1991 of Thorndale. Bennie had been sick for a good while. He will surely be missed by so many. There was a nice big photo of Floyd Zuehlke, Class of 1942 of Taylor in the newspaper. His company, Floydco Inc., celebrated it's 60th anniversary recently and there was a nice article to go along with the photo. Our congratulations to them. A couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to sample (I did a little more than sample) a confection made by Shane Waiser, Class of 2003. It was absolutely wonderful! Shane will graduate soon from culinary school. He made several of these wonderful confections and donated them to St. Paul for their auction that went along with their BBQ lunch. Our congratulations and best wishes go out to Shane. We hear through the grapevine that Trey Felton, Class of 1996 is in the process of purchasing Rodenbeck Farm and Ranch from Grandpa, Marvin "Dusty" Rodenbeck, Class of 1950. Our congratulations to Trey and we wish him much success. Our condolences to the family of Beverly Fluker of Weimer who passed away February 23, 2008. She was mother to Michelle and mother-in-law to her husband, Brian Fisher, Class of 1984. She will surely be missed. Tarleton State University of Stephenville listed their Honor Roll in the newspaper for the fall 2007 semester. Kaleigh Page, Class of 2007 was listed on both the A Honor Roll by taking at least 12 credit hours and having a 4.0 GPR and also on the Distinguished students list. Kaleigh is working toward a degree in nursing. Our congratulations go out to her. Billie Jo Fisher, Class of 1993 is going to work in China in mid-March. She will be altering and repairing costumes from "The Sound of Music" to be presented in China in English. She will be there for a couple of weeks before returning to New York and will be in Thorndale shortly after. We look forward to hearing about this trip. She will be traveling with another 2 or 3 people and an interpreter. An article in the newspaper noted that the Southland Conference leader Stephen F. Austin is having a banner year and former Bulldog star, Austin Falke, Class of 2007 is along for the ride. He has played in 11 of the 24 games as a walk-on freshman. Former teammate, Chris Cornwell, Class of 2007 is a regular contributor to Howard Payne which is 11-12 on the season. He was averaging 4 points and 3 rebounds a game. We're proud of these exes and congratulate them. Our businesses are so great to back our
schools and we really appreciate their support. Without their interest
we couldn't hear the basketball and football games on the radio.
This week, the following businesses footed the bill for these broadcasts.
Carol's, owned and operated by Freddie Wuensche, Class of 1959 and wife Carol Walther Wuensche, Class of 1963, have supported our schools and our organization ever since they've been in business. BS Tire, owned and operated by Richard Schneider, Class of 1985 and wife, Cheryl, have always supported our schools. Bank of Texas, Thorndale has a whole crew of exes working there and always support our schools and our exes organization in many, many ways. Brian Woelfel Automotive supports our schools and even has bulldogs painted on his new building. Thorndale Community Lumber Co. has always supported our schools and even now under new management, they still support us. Thorndale Coop Gin and Grain managed by Jerry Biar, Class of 1966 along with his crew are good supporters of our schools. Rockdale Federal Credit Union-Thorndale Branch is also very supportive. Tranum Country Ford in Rockdale, managed by Eric Paulson, Class of 1995 is one of our out of town supporters. Our good friends at Miller-Starnes Chevy/Buick of Rockdale have always supported our schools and athletics. In Taylor, we appreciate Maxwell Chrysler Dodge Jeep and their support. Taylor Dental Assoc. and Mark Falke, Class of 1974 have been great supporters. Gatti's in Taylor owned and operated by the Glenns have good reason to back our teams. Daughter, Courtney Glenn, is on the Lady Dogs basketball team and her grandmother is none other than our Carol Rodenbeck Glenn, Class of 1960 of Taylor. Without all these kind folks, we couldn't hear the games on the radio and we thank them greatly. It's wonderful to have all these businesses interested enough in our athletic teams to put their money up to allow us "stay at homes" to hear the games. |
