| Don't forget to make a note or our new
e-mail address: locojo@austin.rr.com. and be sure to mark your calendars
for Homecoming on October 17 & 18. It'll be here before we know
it.
We received a real nice donation from Donald Beard, Class of 1956 of Golden, Colorado in memory of his parents, Ulric and Estelle Beard to go toward a scholarship. Ulric Beard graduated in 1930 and passed away July 2, 1976. Estelle Smith Beard graduated in 1931 and passed away August 26, 1996. Scholarships are such a nice way to remember our loved ones. Received an e-mail from Preston Adams, Class of 1966 of Rockport. Wife, Janet Palm Adams, also Class of 1966 had an emergency appendectomy on March 13. She was doing well and due to go home in a day or two. We need to keep Janet in our prayers and surely send her a big get well wish. Our condolences to the family of Ora Bell Prater who passed away on March 6, 2008. She was sister to exes mom, Ella Peevey, who is mom to Carla Peevey, Class of 1973. She will surely be missed. Received a nice e-mail from Carol Conoley Lewis, Class of 1957 of College Station. She reads and enjoys our news articles which is always good to hear. She also requested the address of our ex-teacher, Marie Roepke Willis, and also Class of 1948 of Atlanta, TX which we are always happy to send along. Seems like the Class of 1958 is planning a 50 year class reunion. Curtis Unnasch of that class called for a class roster. My older printer isn't doing a great job right now, so I printed him two copies. Hope they have a great turn out. After notifying Janice Kelm, Class of 1970 of Kingwood by e-mail, the date for Homecoming she returned the favor. Said she is planning to come to the Homecoming lunch on Saturday. We surely look forward to seeing her. We received a change of address card from Rubie Lange Swayze, Class of 1934 from Utopia to Georgetown. We really appreciate Rubie remembering us with this change of address. Now for the funny of the week. At least to us it was funny, but probably not so funny for those involved. Received an e-mail from Bill and Mary Ann Garner Hill, Class of 1953 of Canyon Lake. When Julia and Eldon "Shorty" Niemtschk, Class of 1953 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, they invited our whole class and a number of us attended, but not the Hills and we knew they were planning to attend. Well, they came, but it was a week later and were they shocked. Carolyn and Larry Roepke, Class of 1955 of Taylor were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary that week-end at the hall here in Thorndale. Mary Ann said she didn't think she recognized anyone in the receiving line and sure didn't know that Shorty's name was Larry. You know the rest and we've had a good laugh out of it. After coming so far, we really wish we had known they were here so we could have at least visited for a few minutes with them. We look forward to seeing them at Homecoming again this year! |
