Homecoming 2007 has come and gone and if you didn't attend at least part of it, you don't know what you missed.  It was a wonderful 2 days even if we didn't win the football game.  Our Bulldogs played a real good game and we are very proud of them.

We had 82 people to sign in on Friday night after the game and there are always those who don't sign in so there were probably more than that there.  Such good snacks, drinks, visiting and browsing through memorabilia.  On Saturday, we had 160 people to eat Carol's great chicken fried steak lunch.  More on Homecoming next week.

Be sure to mark your calendars and come to our business meeting on Thursday, October 25 at 6 p.m. at the Olbrich home.  We will close out Homecoming 2007 and plan Homecoming 2008.  And we have a good time in the process.

We received a nice donation to help with out expenses from Robert "P. G." Elliott, Class of 1959 of Georgetown.  We really appreciate this and our thanks to P. G.

We mailed a class roster for the Class of 1955 to Charles Moerbe, Class of 1955 of Dripping Springs.  In return, we received a nice note and donation to help with our expenses.  Our thanks to Charles and it was good to see him at Homecoming this year.

We received a very sweet note and nice donation to help with our expenses from Berniece Jackson Owen, Class of 1935 of San Marcos.  A big thank you to her for both.  She wasn't able to come to Homecoming this year and said she will miss seeing everyone.  She's well but uses a walker to get around.

We received a nice but disappointing note from the Dameraus, ex-teachers.  They returned their tickets as they were unable to come to Homecoming and we really missed them. They wished us a successful event and we appreciate that.  Told us to give away the tickets or whatever we needed to do with them.

Had a note from George Grisham, Class of 1958 and wife, Lynda.  They couldn't come to Homecoming due to her health but sent their change of address in Mount Ida, Arkansas.  Said they hope to make it next year.  We do appreciate those changes of address no matter when they come.

Went out to visit with Elton Ray and Barbara Northcott Barron, Class of 1956 in their beautiful new home.  Such a nice visit and glad to know that Elton Ray isn't retiring from the ministry as he had planned.  And now his health is better and we were so happy to have him as our Master of Ceremonies at Homecoming.  Our thanks to him for that.

We received a sweet note and nice donation to help with our expenses from Ann Rosenthal Burnett, Class of 1929 of Eliasville.  She's 96 years of age and still lives alone, 20 miles from town.  Asked about Homecoming so we will send her our next couple of weeks articles.  Our thanks to her for the donation and congratulations to her for being able to live alone at 96 and especially so far from town.

Martin Donald Longeway, Class of 1976 of Cabot, Arkansas called a couple of times, trying to make arrangements to come to Homecoming.  He did make it and everyone really enjoyed seeing him after all these years.  Had his good looking, 16 year old son with him, too.

Kathryn Jackson Grisham, Class of 1958 stopped by and we sure enjoyed her short visit.  She was nice enough to bake cookies for Homecoming and was wondering where to take them.  Kathryn Ann has been under the weather for quite a while and we really appreciate this and her cookies were wonderful. I not only had one, I had two.

We went to the wedding of Brian Drummond, Jr. and Amanda Wade last week-end in Thrall.  A very lovely wedding and reception.  Brian is the grandson of Marlene Olbrich Drummond, Class of 1961 of Thrall and great grandson of Margie Newman Olbrich, Class of 1942.  Our congratulations to Brian and Amanda.

We received an e-mail from William "Billy" Theis, Class of 1968 of Ridgecrest, California a while back and it was so good to hear from him.  His daughter graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara and is now attending law school at the University of California Davis.  His son is a Junior at Sonoma State University.  Billy and wife both work for the US Navy in China Lake and expect to retire in about 3 years.  We wish them all much success and luck.

For some reason, we've been sending all our information and letters for Nicole Wilson, Class of 1996 of Austin, to her mom in California.  Anyway, thanks to her mom, we sent her a new invitation to her address in Austin along with a class roster.  Nicole has 3 children and stays very busy.  Her mom tells us Nicole loved living in Thorndale.

FYI:  We had 67 invitations returned this year and we were able to re-mail 33 of them.  Not a single one was returned a second time and this is probably some kind of record. Some years, we mailed an invitation 4 times.  In 2006, 117 were returned and 91 were re-mailed.  In 2005, 184 were returned and 148 were re-mailed.  Back in 2002, we received the least (42) returned and we re-mailed 29 of them.  So we had a great year on address corrections and we thank everyone for their help on this expensive once a year mailing.  Saved us lots of money.
