| With so much going on among our exes, it's
difficult to get all our good Homecoming 2007 information in, but we will
continue for another couple of weeks.
As we entered the Firemen's Hall at noon on Saturday, October 6, you couldn't help but give a big gasp. It was so beautifully decorated and set up. We can't thank Irene Waiser Cast, Class of 1944 and her crew enough for all their hard work. Irene and hubby, Melvin Cast, Class of 1947 start well before Homecoming on the decorations and they are always so lovely. They've been doing this for many years and they don't quit there. When it's all over, they haul and store these decorations from one year to the next. Their crew gets up at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning of our big bash to get started. The tables are beautifully covered with maroon and gold, flowers down the middle of each row, bulldogs placed around. "Welcome Exes" covers the main wall. Greenery and more bulldogs are placed on the stage and all is ready. This first look when you walk into the hall is what you don't forget. So lovely. Our thanks to Don Guthrie, Class of 1957 for giving up his visiting time to stroll the hall, constantly taking pictures. He does a great job and we have our good memories on film. Our thanks to Jesse Schrader, Class of 1957 and his helpers for passing the plates for our free will donations. They also count the money so the total can be reported before the program is over. At the Homecoming football game with Milano, Kenneth Menzel, Class of 1967 was one of the flag raisers during the National Anthem. There was a nice photo in the newspaper with Kenneth in it. Our condolences to the family of exes Dad and exes husband, Clifton Peacock, who passed away on October 16, 2007. He was the husband of the late Gloria Buchanan Peacock, Class of 1954 who passed away March 11, 2004. He was the father of Carla Peacock, Class of 1975; the late Cliff Peacock, Class of 1980 who passed away April 10, 2006; and Cheryl Peacock, Class of 1984. Several grand children are also among our exes or will be soon. He will surely be missed by many. Our thanks to Edwin and Maebell Heintze Beard, both Class of 1951 of Phoenix, Arizona for a nice donation to our scholarship fund in memory of his parents Ulric Beard, Class of 1930 and Estelle Smith Beard, Class or 1931, both deceased. We have several of our exes who need our
prayers.
There was a nice article in the newspaper on Navy Seaman Recruit Joe G. Sandoval, Class of 2007. He has just completed 8 weeks of basic training. The program was designed with a distinct "Navy" flavor to take into account what it means to be a sailor. Our congratulations to Joe and we are proud of him. Visited with Cynthia Richter Galbreath, Class of 1972 both in person and on the phone. Our thanks to Cynthia for the addresses of both her newly married daughters and new son-in-law, Jason Cooper. We received a nice e-mail from Janice Zieschang Estill, Class of 1962 with her new address in Meadowlake, TX. along with her e-mail address. Our thanks to her for this change. She tells us she received her Homecoming invitation but due to her husband having knee replacement, they weren't able to make it this year. Hopes to see us next year. Nice photo in the newspaper of our exes in the Linwood Acres Garden Club on a tour of the sites in Brenham. They were Marie Cuba Freiling, Class of 1952 and Sue Cuba Eubanks, Class of 1964, both of Rockdale. Been e-mailing back and forth with Stella Wilson, mother of Nicole Wilson, Class of 1996 in Austin. I think we finally have Nicole's address correct. We appreciate Stella's help with this. Nice photo in the newspaper of Johnny Cavazos, Class of 1966 of Rockdale. He just about won everything in the Escuelita Cookoff. Our congratulations to Johnny. Sondra Pinkston Dorsett, Class of 1960 of Magnolia and I have been e-mailing back and forth and working on some lost addresses. After giving her Carolyn Campbell Sanders, Class of 1961 of Burleson, e-mail address, they got in touch and are enjoying their renewed old friendship. Said they have about 45 years of news to catch up on. Got a sweet thank you from Carolyn for the connection. This is what our organization is all about ---keeping in touch. You may or may not read this in time to be reminded of our business meeting here at the Olbrich home on Thursday, October 25 at 6 pm. We will close out Homecoming 2007 and plan Homecoming 2008. And we have a great time in the process. |
