Beware of
Sinking Boats!

If your child comes home and tells you that his or her boat sank during the day, ask them why!

Here is a brief explanation of the discipline system that I use.  In our room, each child has a boat with his or her name on it.  These always begin the day in the blue water at the top of the boat chart.  When a misbehavior occurs, boats sink into red, green and yellow water respectively.  Boat moves are reserved for rude, hurtful or disrespectful behavior.  Consequence for a boat move usually involves sitting out during an fun activity such as playground or a movie.  If your child's boat moves out of the blue water consistently, I will notify you that a conference may be in order.  I believe that parent-teacher communication is the best way to keep small problems from turning into large ones.
