Principles of food science and nutrition are interdependent with growth, development, health and wellness.  Students learn principles to make informed choices that promote good health as well as skills useful in food preparation.

    Students will need a small notebook to collect recipes in and keep class notes.  I would suggest page protectors for recipes.  With page protectors, if students spill something on the recipe while cooking, they can easily wipe the page off.  Notebook Tests will be given at regular intervals.
 

Interior Design

    Interior design addressees psychological, physiological and sociological needs of individuals by enhancing the environment in which they live and work.  Students will do projects involving evaluation of interior designs using magazines and creating their own designs through use of samples or colors.

    Students will need a notebook to keep classwork samples together.
 
 

Career Studies

    Students will develop knowledge and skill essential for managing the challenges of living and working in a diverse society.  Career awareness will be a major part of this class.  Students will develop a portfolio useful in the career process.

    Students will need a notebook with page protectors for their portfolio.  They will also need a disk to save work on.

    Guest speakers can be an asset for career awareness.  I am looking for people willing to come to class and share information about their occupation.
 

Personal & Family Development

    Personal and Family Development is a comprehensive course that helps students to develop skills useful to personal effectiveness in career, family strength and well being.  This course will include units on personal development, family studies, child development, apparel, foods and nutrition, consumer management, housing and career preparation.
 

Apparel

    Apparel allows students to learn and practice principle behind clothing construction.  Students will learn how to apply principles of design to clothing, characteristics of   fabrics and fabric finishes, and basic economics and principles behind fashion merchandising.
 

Prep for Parenting

    Preparing for parentingallows students to learn stages of developments.  It helps students to prepare for parenting by understanding what to expect at various ages, what triggers abuse and how to prevent it, how parenting will change their lives.  The class also includes doing labs with classes in the elementary school.
