The students in my class will gain an understanding of rhyming words by reading

a short Dr. Seuss story from this web site:

The students will be given a copy of the "Cup on Pup" story to underline the rhyming words.
I will then read "Hop on Pop" to the class.
The students will name at least 7 rhyming words that they hear in the story.
I will list these words on the board.

Evaluation

The students will be evaluated on their ability to recognize rhyming words from a
story.

Extension

The students will generate rhyming words on their own.

The students will attempt to generate a rhyme to go in a story.
