Alumni Feature - Kevin Menzel

From championship titles to corporate boardrooms, Kevin Menzel’s journey is a true reflection of the opportunities and lifelong impact Thorndale ISD can offer. A proud graduate of the Thorndale High School Class of 1990, Kevin was a standout student-athlete and leader, involved in Football, Basketball, Baseball, One-Act Play, and CX Debate.
During his time at TISD, Kevin helped lead the Bulldogs to their first-ever Football State Championship in 1989 under Head Coach Don Cowan—an experience he describes as unforgettable. He was also part of the State Champion CX Debate team for three consecutive years alongside debate partner Austin Camp, coached by Shirley Doherty. Kevin’s senior year was especially memorable as the One-Act Play team, directed by Kathy Behrens, brought home a State Championship, where he was named Best Actor in the State. He also helped restart the baseball program and contributed to an undefeated district season.
After graduation, Kevin earned a degree in Pre-Med Biology with a Science Teaching Certificate from the University of Texas at Austin. He returned to Thorndale as a science teacher and coach, calling it a “surreal experience” to teach alongside Linda Culp and coach with Don Cowan and Glen West. During that time, he was part of the coaching staff that celebrated the 1995 Football State Championship.
Kevin later transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry, spending nearly two decades at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals in roles spanning sales, marketing, analytics, and executive leadership. In 2014, he co-founded Focus Consumer Healthcare, where he served as CEO and led the company from inception through legal structuring, team development, and investment acquisition. In 2023, he successfully oversaw the company’s acquisition by Kobayashi Healthcare International, where he now serves as a member of the executive team and President of Focus Consumer Healthcare.
Kevin and his wife of 32 years, Jenna Buchanan Menzel, were high school sweethearts who met at TISD. They now live in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, just outside of Chattanooga, and enjoy a growing family that includes four children and a granddaughter.
Reflecting on his time at Thorndale, Kevin shared:
"Thorndale provided incredible opportunities for success and lifelong memories still shared with friends and the community. There’s a long history of excellence here, and it’s powerful to see that tradition continue for today’s students."
Kevin Menzel’s story is a testament to how the foundation laid in a small town like Thorndale can lead to success on a global stage—all while staying grounded in community and family.
