Volume 3, Issue 16: 4/10/26
Greetings Bulldogs! Happy Friday.
Testing season is underway. Although we all have our opinions on STAAR/EOC testing, one thing we can hopefully agree on is that our teachers and kids have all been working hard all year to prepare and do their best on them.
As my annual reminder, please have a quick conversation with your kiddo about doing their best, relaxing, TAKING THEIR TIME, and emphasizing they are important, but they don’t fully define the student.
I want to give a special shout-out to our district testing coordinator, Melanie Morrison, for all of her hard work coordinating the logistics for our district. This is not a small or easy task, and she does it wonderfully!
Here is a list of this year's testing dates (and the MAP/Exploros End of Year Tests):

Bond Updates:
It is becoming easier and easier to envision the new high school in its fully functioning form!
The exterior is nearly complete, the asphalt is in, exterior lighting is installed, and hallways and classrooms are getting finishing work.
Check out these great pictures of the progress:

(exterior photo illustrating the light poles and asphalt driveway and parking)

(Check out that awesome 50 ft flag pole)

(Open hallway corridor emphasizing the “new commons” area that will be furnished with comfortable seating, white boards, and a smart screen to hold classroom discussions or for kids to get work done)

(hallway wall tile is up, and the open ceiling is painted in Bulldog Maroon)

(tile work along the hallway walls, including the accent tiles at the classroom entrances)

(The drop ceiling and lighting is installed in rooms, and they are starting to take shape as classrooms - check out all that great natural light!)

TABC Assistant Coach Finalist!
Congratulations to Coach Casey McDaniel on being named a TABC Assistant Coach Finalist!

Great Job & Congratulations to the TISD Food Service Department
Let me start by saying I eat breakfast occasionally and lunch often (3-5 times per week) in the cafeteria, and the food is great! The team does a great job of preparing great meal options, delicious sides, and keeping food fresh and warm.
Whether cafeteria meals bring back a happy nostalgia like those delicious rectangular pizza slices back in the day, or the carton of cold chocolate milk, or if you didn’t prefer your school's meals, I can tell you, this team does a GREAT JOB!
On to the celebration…
Food Service earned a perfect score of 100% on BOTH health inspections this year—a true reflection of their commitment to food safety and excellence!
And the celebrations don’t stop there…
Jeni Anders will be attending TDA MegaCon, where the department will be recognized for the Farm Fresh Challenge, earning the highest honor: “Cream of the Crop.”
This is a HUGE accomplishment and highlights their dedication to serving fresh, local foods and creating meaningful experiences for our students.

Baseball & Softball:
Baseball is currently sitting atop the district in first place after big wins against Rosebud-Lott and Granger.
Softball is currently sitting in a good place in the playoff race as we enter the second half of district play!

Congratulations (Belated) to the TISD Junior High Band:
Although it has been on our social media, I don’t think I have had a chance to share in the blog the amazing accomplishment of our middle school band at the start of March:
For the first time in school history, the Thorndale Middle School Band earned straight 1s at UIL! Out of 16 bands, only 6 received a First Division in both stage performance and sightreading.
